Celestún is a small beach town in the border of Campeche and Yucatán states. It is mostly known for the biodiversity it posesses, due to the mangroove forests and salty marshes surronding it. Flamingo is the most popular species, and almost the symbol of Celestún, unfortunately though, when I went there to see them, the water level was so high that flamingoes coudn't feed themselves, so there were none in the area. Despite that, I got to see acuatic and sea birds, some completely unknown for me. About the beach, well, it is clean of garbage but very "weedy", due to the quantity of seaweeds in the water, but the sea is very very calm and jade green colored. Food is delicious and there aren't many people so stayng here is very enjoyable. It's about four hours west Merida by bus.
